Every Ryokan is equipped with this tub and it all varies with the style, but the best and unique tub is a huge drum or barrel created to hold enough water for a person to soak the body up to the neck.
You should that this tub is not use for taking a bath, and when you do, the receptionist or the hotel attendant will be disgusted because you are not using the tub the Japanese way. Before you soak your body in the tub, you should have taken a bath first because this tub is use only for soaking the body.
This type body therapy is just only one of the unique tradition of Japan. Japan has maintained its unique culture up to now. Though there had been indication of another culture, Japanese are strictly practicing all their native culture which really one personality Japan is made of.

The courteous attitudes of the employees is just one of those things you need to consider.
